The day before yesterday I returned from vacation/honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and a week in Oregon…and immediate headed back to work at Prime Physique and San Jose Adventure Boot Camp! (LOVE IT!)

Today we kicked off the San Jose Boot Camp with a great turnout and a great start to the fall boot camp program. I must say that I’m stoked to be home and back with all my girls at camp! (Don’t get me wrong…Cabo ROCKS!)

Now I work pretty hard at boot camp to get the girls into great shape and make sure they have fun, and I totally soaked my shirt with sweat, but I do love it.

However, sometimes I work so hard that I don’t notice what is going on around me…

But when I left the park in Campbell this morning, I let out a loud “YEA” because we had such an awesome start to the program today…

Then I looked around as I was driving away and noticed that it was a beautiful morning, no clouds, a light chill in the air, all telling me that the fall season had begun while I was away on vacation.

Seriously, I love Spring and Fall! (Summer is my favorite…but there is something about the Spring and Fall air that is awesome for an outdoor boot camp programindoor boot camp programs got nothing on what we do!

Anyway, I am stoked to be home and back to putting up my blogs right here…Hope you enjoy them too;-)

We are all going to work hard and get into awesome shape over the next 4 weeks (at 5:30 AM and 9:30AM)…You see, I gained about 10 pounds on my 2 week vacation! And the girls had 2 weeks off…and a few of them didn’t exercise at all!

Hey: It was MY vacation;-))))

Back to work, workout, boot camp, and the good old weight loss diet program in San Jose!

Have an awesome day!

One of my San Jose Boot Campers came out to boot camp last week and brought me an awesome spice imported directly from her family in India. So I had to try it out and share it with you here!

Now this is not a detailed recipe because…well, I just don’t always work that way when cooking. Actually I tell all my boot campers to have fun when cooking and just make it taste good!

So here is what I did…

Took 2 nice pieces of Atlantic Salmon and coated them in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and covered them in this spice mixture heavily on both sides…It reminds me of Curry Powder, so I’m going to say that you use a good curry powder.

Added some kosher salt to both sides.

Then drizzled honey on the top side and let it stand in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before grilling on the BBQ, using caution NOT to overcook. Actually I believe in leaving fresh fish slightly rare.

While the fish was grilling, I sauteed a handful of finely chopped sweet onion in a small amount of Butter and Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Don’t freak out, it wasn’t a lot;-) over medium high heat.

Added diced red and yellow bell peppers and some raisins that had been plumped in a bit of Rum (heat about 1/4 cup of spiced rum in a microwave bowl for about a minute, add the raisins and allow to sit for about 10-20 minutes)…Yep, I added the Rum too!

Once that cooked for a few minutes, I added more of the Curry Powder, a dash of Kosher Salt, and 2 big handfuls of fresh Spinach and let it steam while I got the fish off the grill.

Serve the fish over the spinach (after tossing to mix the spinach and other ingredients)…And:

(CAMPBELL, CA March 17, 2011) — As spring is busting out all over, don’t forget that this is the season of renewal – a perfect time to refresh and jazz up your old exercise routine or create a totally new workout.
“If you’ve done the same old routine over and over again, you might be in a fitness rut,” says Brett Riesenhuber, CPT, owner of San Jose Adventure Boot Camp for Women & Prime Physique Fitness & Weight Loss. “Spring is an ideal time to try out a new program or even just reinvigorate your existing one.”

Riesenhuber points out that updating an exercise regimen from time to time is a good idea; not only does this prevent boredom – the main reason why people give up exercising – but it also ensures that you don’t reach a plateau, with your body adapting to the repetitive training.

“You want to keep yourself physically and mentally challenged,” he says. “If you add variety to your routine every two to three weeks, your workouts will be more enjoyable and beneficial.”

How can you spruce up your routine? Riesenhuber recommends these steps:

Mix it up! If your usual session consists of just one or two machines at the gym, you are not putting all your body systems through the paces (or keeping your workout interesting). Take it up a notch by alternating cardio, strength, core, endurance, flexibility, and balance training.

HIIT the mark! If you don’t have a lot of time but would still like to get the most benefit from your routine, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), is exactly what you need. It provides a good cardio workout, burns fat, and increases endurance. Maximum benefit in minimum time!

Work out with a group. Research has shown the benefits of working out with others. A group helps keep you motivated and encourages you to push yourself to new levels. Last but certainly not least, it keeps exercise interesting and fun!

Where can you find a workout that is fresh, varied, and effective?

“Boot camp workouts are by far the best because they combine all these elements,” Riesenhuber says. “There is no better place for your ‘spring training’!”
