Breakfast is key!

Posted in Fitness, Cooking, Diet & Nutrition by admin on the September 11th, 2008

Want to lose weight/fat? Better start with the most important meal of the day: BREAKFAST.

Breakfast starts off the day and the metabolism. Though I prefer to exercise first then have breakfast, they do need to be done in close proximity to each other. Remember that there is a thermogenic effect of eating, so get that effect working for you first thing in the morning. AND if you follow your workout with exercise, then carbs are a good thing to include…and we all like those carbs!

So what to eat? Here are my 2 favorite suggestions, both of which have many options for their preparation.

Option One: A Meal Replacement Shake. We all know about these powder packages, starting all the way back with Met-RX, which are blended with ice and water. Just add your flavorings and you have a great meal. Now days I have 2 personal preferences: Isagenix’s IsaLean Shakes (www.FitnessFatBurn.com) and good ‘ol EAS with their Myoplex and Myoplex LIte for the girls;-) Either of these are great choices for your shakes. I always choose the Vanilla version so that I can flavor them however I want at that particular time.

Option 2: Egg and Veggie Scramble. Use whole egg and egg white at a ratio of 1:2 (one whole egg and 2 whites), women will do one set of this and men 1 or 2. Put these in the blender (without the shells;-) and add salt and pepper…and any other seasonings you like. Heat up your non-stick fry pan and saute your veggies: I like onions and peppers (jalapeno, anaheim, whatever) lightly with Pam or a drop of Olive Oil. When the veggies are ready, add the egg mixture. Here comes your serving options: As-Is, Whole Wheat Toast, or a Tortilla (small). Plain is kind of boring, but correct without a workout. Toast is good, but I like a bit of jam on top for flavor. Tortilla is great this time of year because you can add that salsa you made after reading the last post! I also add NF Sour Cream most of the time…BTW, the salsa can be added to the eggs with any options, as can hot sauce if you like it.

Remember to count those calories! They key is to always have this meal to start your day…even if you hate my suggestions…find your own (and let me know what your ideas are;-).

Enjoy!

Now go workout! And have a great day;-)
