Top 7 Tips for Getting Your Fitness Program Rolling, Again!
How many times have you fallen off the wagon of fitness and weight loss only to find yourself asking the same tired question…
How tough is it to get the fitness and weight loss program rolling…yet AGAIN?!?! AND why is it so darn hard?!?!?
Well it can be tough….
but if you pay attention to these 7 Keys to Success…
You CAN do it….
You WILL do it….
AND it will be much easier.
1. Commit! Sounds easy enough, but time and time again people fail to do this one simple thing. You must make the commitment to your fitness and weight loss program and stick to it.
Don’t just think it, write it down. Set your goals and a detailed time line for completion down on paper. f you miss a target then shoot to make it with the next goal. If you missed because you screwed up then commit to not screwing up again, and keep moving.
2. First Goal! You are NOT where you use to be, so maybe make that your first MAJOR goal. Note that I said MAJOR goal…it may take a while to get back to where you were, so set up as many goals as necessary to reach that goal.
Now maybe your previous level of fitness is not attainable…so what! Make up a new goal and set the steps that will be needed to reach it. Set the steps up on paper.
What are you waiting for? Get out a pen and write your major goal NOW. Put down details and work your way backwards from the end. When you get stuck, start at the beginning with your first little goal.
Guess what?
Eventually the beginning and the end will meet in the middle and your goal list and game plan will be complete! And they may change along the way, just never walk away…because that is why you are here now.
3. Drop It! Drop the baggage and the crabs! What do I mean by these 2 terms? Simple:
Baggage: The crap you carry around in your head that holds you back. Stop telling yourself that you can’t do something, it is too hard, I don’t have the ability, drop all that crap! Anything that your mind tells you you can’t do needs to be dumped (OK, don’t be an idiot and try to climb the side of a cliff without proper training and gear…you still need to exercise common intelligence;-)
Crabs: Crabs are the people in life who try to pull you down to their level at the bottom. You see, crabs live on the bottom and when one tries to pull itself up to the top, the other crabs instinctively grab it and pull it back down to their level.
Well there are people like this too. They will burst your bubble and pull you down to their pathetic levels. Drop those people quicker than you would drop a hot frying pan that you picked up on accident…AND RUN LIKE HELL! Don’t feel bad, they suck anyway and you are awesome…and you ARE going to be successful. YEA!
4. Talk! Talk About It! Tell everyone. The more you talk, the more you MUST do it.
Program your mind for success by telling people what you are doing. You may even get a few people to join you and POOF…you now have a support team!
5. Plan! Plan for SUCCESS! So many times I have seen people just say that they have a desire or a goal, but they fail to make a plan. Recently I read a quote that sticks in my mind:
A Dream Is Just A Dream. A Goal Is A Dream With A Plan And A Deadline.
You must make a plan for your success. Not only do you need an overall goal, but you need to set the little goals to reach along the way.
Go back to what I said earlier and WRITE IT DOWN. If you have not yet done that then slap yourself on the leg, get out a pen, and start to write some stuff.
Hey, I’m serious, write it down now…otherwise this is just reading for the sake of wasting time.
In order to achieve, you must believe! Writing it will help you to believe and have a plan, with deadlines!
6. Reward! Yes, you can deviate and have OFF DAYS! They are part of your reward system as well as a way to manage your SANITY!
Good 6 days and kicked butt on your workouts? Cheat meal has been earned! Eat what you want and do not feel guilt.
Tomorrow you are back on track, so don’t have too big of a hangover;-)
7. Support! Support is key! Talk to your friends and family. Let everyone know that you are working towards a goal and that you demand their help. If they try to derail your progress…bail!
Hell, why would you need to be around someone who does not support your goals?
BONUS: #8 – FAIL FORWARD! Fail forward? What the heck am I talking about here?
You will mess up.
Did you get that?
You WILL mess up.
So what?!?!? Mess up, live with it, and get back on the wagon!
Just because you messed up one night does not mean the whole program and journey are over! What, are you crazy?!??!? Pizza, beer, and ice cream won’t get you back to your beautiful body, but messing up with them once and then getting back on the train will still get you there (just a bit slower;-).
But falling off and deciding that you just gave up is wrong! It is also why you are here reading this now, isn’t it?
Fail, deal, recover, and get back on track.
Guess what?
You CAN and WILL do it this time. And if you need help, we are always here for you (OK, most of the time;-).
Now go workout!
