Starbucks Free Pastry Day – Weight Loss?
OK, so I just got an email from Starbucks.
You see, I have one of their “Black Cards.” What is that you ask?
Not quite sure, but it cost like 25 bucks and it gives me free internet access when at Starbucks. I needed it while opening a boot camp on the other side of town, so I got it. It aslo gives me a discount on coffee and products (I think), so it comes in handy when I take the girls out for coffee on the last day of camp.
They also send me emails with specials…thus this blog.
Tomorrow is free pastry day. You get a free pastry when you pair it with a coffee drink.
So what you ask?
Well, let’s break this down real quick.
First off let me say that I like Starbucks and actually have stock in the company, so feel free to support them (and me;-). However they also serve up a lot of calories.
Starbucks has been generous enough to put up a couple of web pages with calorie counts and I found the following:
Grande Drinks:
White Chocolate Mocha – 400 Calories
Cafe Mocha – 260 Calories (Non fat is still 220)
Frapachinos seem to average 200-400+ Calories
Pastry:
Apple Bran Muffin – 350 Calories
Plain Baegel – 300 Calories
Rasberry Scone – 490 Calories
Apple Fritter – 420 Calories (OK, that blew me away because I would eat the scone before the fritter, thinking the calories were lower in the scone!)
Zucchini Walnut Muffin – 490 Calories (Still higher than the damn fritter)
So my question here is simple: What the hell?!?!?
A coffee and a muffin = 800 calories…for breakfast!
For the ladies, that is more than half of your average daily caloric intake. And these things do not even sound that bad (ok, 700 with non fat milk…but that is still more than half the average 1200 calorie per day weight loss recommendation.)
Like I said earlier, I am not out to be long winded here, nor am I out to slam Starbucks. I am simply out to open your eyes and make sure that you think before you endulge in that free pastry at Starbucks…or paying for it on a normal day.
Think before you eat and drink your calories. The link to the calorie list is below. Please feel free to post your comments and observations as others will surely benefit from your experiences!
Now go workout!

Thanks for the info. Ugh, maybe one day scones will be healthy and under 200 calories and taste yummy.
